Green vision International Estate electrification at Tugereng

Kutehjumble has been engaged by Green Vision International Estate to carry out the full electrification of a newly developed residential estate at Tujereng, The Gambia. The project involves connecting the estate to The Gambia’s national electricity grid through the installation of a 250 kVA transformer, the erection of a concrete pole network across the estate grounds, and the running of Low Voltage (LV) distribution cables from the transformer to individual compounds and plots throughout the development. This is a comprehensive estate electrification scheme — bringing mains power to an entirely new community from the ground up — and the project is currently ongoing, with works progressing in phases across the Tujereng site.

Green Vision International Estate represents a new chapter in residential development at Tujereng. Kutehjumble’s electrification works are central to making the estate fully habitable — ensuring that every compound within the development has access to a safe, metered, and reliable connection to the national NAWEC grid, creating a properly powered community from the very first phase of occupation.

Project status: ongoing

This project is currently in active progress at Tujereng. Kutehjumble’s teams are on site carrying out phased installation works across the Green Vision International Estate. As new sections of the estate are developed and handed over, the electrification network is extended to serve additional compounds and plots. The project will be formally completed and commissioned once all estate plots have been connected and the full LV distribution network has passed final inspection and energisation.

250 kVA transformer

Estate supply transformer

A 250 kVA distribution transformer is being installed to serve as the primary power source for Green Vision International Estate. The transformer connects the estate to the NAWEC national grid, stepping down the incoming MV supply to the 400 V Low Voltage level required for residential distribution. At 250 kVA, the transformer is sized to supply the full complement of residential compounds within the estate with adequate capacity for domestic electrical loads — including lighting, fans, appliances, air conditioning, and security systems — across all plots in the development.

Concrete pole network

LV pole-mounted distribution

Kutehjumble is manufacturing and erecting a network of reinforced concrete poles throughout the estate to carry the Low Voltage distribution cables from the transformer to each compound. The poles are positioned along the estate’s internal road network and plot boundaries, forming the structural backbone of the LV overhead distribution system. Cables are strung between poles and terminated at each compound’s service connection point, ready for NAWEC metering and consumer connection upon occupancy of individual plots.

Compound service connections

Individual plot supply connections

From the LV pole network, individual service cables are run to each compound within Green Vision International Estate, terminating at a consumer connection point ready for NAWEC meter installation. Each connection is installed in accordance with NAWEC’s residential connection standards, ensuring that every plot in the estate receives a properly fused, correctly earthed, and individually metered electricity supply. This arrangement gives each homeowner their own independent NAWEC account and metered supply from the day they take occupation of their property.

NAWEC grid connection & compliance

The Green Vision International Estate electrification is being carried out in coordination with the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) of The Gambia. The transformer installation, pole network, and all LV distribution works are designed and executed in accordance with NAWEC’s technical standards and connection requirements. Upon completion, the estate’s electrical infrastructure will undergo NAWEC’s formal inspection and approval process before the transformer is energised and individual compound meters are installed — ensuring the entire estate network is safe, compliant, and officially connected to the national grid.

  • NAWEC application & grid connection approval — Preparation and submission of all documentation required by NAWEC for the estate transformer installation and grid connection, including load assessment and network design for approval.
  • Estate survey & electrification design — Detailed survey of the Tujereng estate layout, including plot positions, road network, and load centres, to design the optimal transformer location, pole positions, and LV cable routes serving every compound in the development.
  • Concrete pole manufacture & erection — In-house manufacture of reinforced concrete poles to the required specification, followed by erection across the estate at designed positions, set to the correct depth and alignment to carry the LV distribution cables safely and durably.
  • Transformer supply & installation — Supply, transportation, and installation of the 250 kVA distribution transformer at the approved substation point within the estate, including mounting, MV terminations, LV connections, earthing, and all associated hardware.
  • LV cable stringing & distribution network — Stringing of Low Voltage distribution cables between the concrete poles from the transformer outward to all sections of the estate, forming a complete LV overhead network covering every street and plot corridor within the development.
  • Compound service connections — Installation of individual service drops from the LV pole network to each compound’s connection point, with correct fusing, earthing, and termination at the consumer’s meter position, ready for NAWEC meter installation.
  • Earthing & protection systems — Installation of earth electrode systems at the transformer and throughout the LV network, including surge protection and line fusing, ensuring the entire estate network operates safely and in compliance with protection standards.
  • NAWEC inspection, metering & energisation — Coordination of NAWEC’s formal network inspection upon completion of each project phase, followed by transformer energisation and installation of individual compound meters — bringing each section of the estate live as works are completed.

Green Vision International Estate is a new residential development located at Tujereng in The Gambia’s West Coast Region. As a purpose-planned estate offering plots and homes to buyers seeking quality residential accommodation outside the Greater Banjul Area, Green Vision International Estate requires complete modern infrastructure — including roads, drainage, and critically, a reliable and properly engineered electricity supply. Kutehjumble’s electrification of the estate is a foundational part of making Green Vision International Estate a fully serviced, liveable, and attractive residential community. Once complete, every compound in the estate will enjoy an independent, metered connection to The Gambia’s national electricity grid — a standard of supply that supports comfortable, modern residential living for all future residents of the development.
